It has been a little over a year and a half since Loren McGinnis began hosting Calgary's The Eyeopener. Let's check in with him, on his journey to the host chair, how he's connected with Calgarians, and to hear the stories he's shared with hundreds of thousands of listeners throughout southern Alberta.

Loren McGinnis is the host of CBC Radio's Calgary Eyeopener.

It's the most listened-to morning radio show in the city. He picked up the torch of this show that has decades of history in the city and in Southern Alberta. It's a great job. And it's a big change for someone who has lived in Alberta and all over Western Canada, but had never called Calgary home.

Before moving to Calgary a year and a half ago, Loren lived in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories for some 17 years.

And for nearly 10 years of that, he hosted morning radio for CBC North.  The Trailbreaker goes out to all of the NWT, a bit of Northern Alberta, and the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut.  Loren travelled and broadcast from communities all over the North.

Now Calgary is home for Loren and his young family. And his focus for journalism and storytelling is the heartbeat, the news, and the culture of the city and the region.

Loren is looking forward to reflecting on the shift from remote northern broadcasting to the pace and verve of the Calgary Eyeopener.
